Friends of Caprice - July News
It’s finally getting hotter. Mediterranean in places. Definitely balmy. Between writing this and clicking send we can’t guarantee there won’t be a sudden change in weather, but we can confirm that this month’s emailer brings news of a festival celebrating the heat of chillis at Bam-Bou, that The Mount Street Deli will be hosting a taste of Spain and that Sheekey’s Speakeasies return with the kooky, comedic and slightly barmy Isy Suttie. (OK, that was tenuous.) As tennis fever grips, 34 launches a new pudding in celebration. 'Advantage 34' (above) is a ball of white Valrhona chocolate sitting on chocolate popping candy 'soil'. As the hot strawberry sauce is poured over, its filling of strawberries, elderflower ice cream and elderflower sherbet is revealed. Summer love.
SATURDAY BRUNCH AT LE CAPRICE |

Sunday brunch at Le Caprice is a bit of an institution – no weekend is quite complete without a Bloody Mary and eggs Arlington. And from 15 July you can enjoy brunch on a Saturday too. As well as all the classics, new dishes on the menu include fried duck’s egg with chorizo, broad beans and Padrón peppers, crab roll with root vegetable chips and wagyu rump steak sandwich with black pepper mayonnaise, rocket and Parmesan. Brunch is available every Saturday and Sunday from 11.30am to 4.00pm. More information

BAM-BOU CHILLI FESTIVAL |

Bam-Bou is going chilli mad this summer, hosting a festival to honour the fiery ingredient. On Monday lunchtimes and Monday to Friday evenings until the end of September, the chilli tasting plate (£16) features seven dishes of different heats including a Jalapeno popper - a fresh chilli stuffed with chopped pork and seasoned with lemongrass, garlic and shallots. Three equally spicy cocktails at £8.95 each, will complement. And if you don’t know a Mojave from a Scotch Bonnet, the team will be on hand to guide you. More information

CELLAR MASTER'S CHOICE |

Our cellars under Hays Mews in Mayfair are a rarely-seen treasure trove and a wine-lovers delight. Hidden down there are gems from some of the great wine makers and it seems a shame for them just to gather dust. So, for this month only, bin ends of some of the best including Chateau Latour and Chateau Lafite Rothschild will be available at Scott’s, 34, The Ivy, Daphne's, J Sheekey and Le Caprice priced at only £20 over cost price. Remarkable value, amazing wines. See the wine lists at the restaurants for their current availability.

ALFRESCO DINING |

Is summer finally here? The traditional rains of Wimbledon have held off and the pavements of town are awash with post-work socialisers. The terraces at Scott’s, Le Caprice, Bam-Bou, J Sheekey and Rivington Greenwich are open throughout the afternoon serving à la carte menus to accompany cocktails and perfectly chilled wines. And who cares if it rains? Umbrellas and heaters will protect stiff upper lips from the elements. More information
