The Return of the Native |
|
 |
Friends of Caprice - September News
September sees kids returning to school as well as the return of many of the year's fashion highlights, with Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out on Thursday 6 September, then London Fashion Week from 14-18 September. For seafood lovers, however, the highlight of the month is probably the return of the native oyster season. Since the end of April, natives have been seeding on the sea beds, but now (and for as long as there's an ‘r’ in the month) they are ready to harvest. See below for details of a special native oyster and Pol Roger offer at J Sheekey Oyster Bar.
As the year moves on we also get to enjoy the new game season and The Mount Street Deli has a night celebrating the best of British on 11 September. If you prefer something more exotic visit Bam-Bou and try its stunning new collection of Japanese whiskies, with a special dinner on 25 September. (Details below.)
And if you are going to be in London on 10 September, don’t forget that a stunning summer of sport is being capped off with the Olympic closing parade all the way from Mansion House to the Mall. See you there.
NATIVE OYSTERS & POL ROGER PURE |

Celebrate the start of the native oyster season this September at J Sheekey Oyster Bar and enjoy half a dozen native oysters and a glass of Pol Roger Pure Champagne for £19.50. The Oyster Bar serves West Mersea natives which are lauded for their saline, silky plumpness and are a perfect match for Pol Roger Pure’s complex register of cloves and roses, with hints of breadcrumbs, yeast and citrus fruit. J Sheekey Oyster Bar is open all day from 12 noon to 12 midnight (11pm on Sundays) and its central location makes it a perfect pit stop during London Fashion Week. More details

RECIPE OF THE MONTH |

Tim's recipe of the month for Dorset apple cake makes the best of the current harvest. This is a very simple dish which is great on at tea time or to finish off a dinner. Tim uses Bramleys, but you can use any type of cooking apple (dessert apples are too sweet and don't hold their shape). Serve it warm or at room temperature with cream, creme fraiche or on its own.
