A Touch of Glamour

Friends of Caprice - February News

February is without doubt short, but it is oh so sweet as well. The winter social calendar is teeming with opportunities to gorge and be glamorous, not to mention amorous! We welcome the fashion intelligentsia into town for London Fashion Week; we scoff delicious pancakes on Shrove Tuesday before giving them up for Lent; we swoon on Valentine’s; and then, we ogle the film fraternity letting down its hair at the glittering BAFTAs, just before the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

On top of the treats outlined in the newsletter, we wanted to draw your attention to some particularly mouth-watering moments for February. Bam-Bou Head Chef, Steve Gower has created a feast for the senses for Valentine’s Day. Rivington Grill’s Shrove Tuesday pièce de résistance has to be the Montgomery Cheddar and Marmite pancake. And if you dare to fall into the “I hate Marmite” camp, they have a banoffee pancake with extra toffee sauce, chocolate cream, toasted almonds and hot chocolate sauce. Read on Macduff...

Tet Nguyen at Bam-Bou

As well as Chinese New Year and the GRAMMYs, Sunday 10 February also marks the beginning of the Vietnamese New Year, more commonly known by its shortened name Tết. The most important and popular holiday and festival in Vietnam, it marks the arrival of spring. Many Vietnamese prepare for Tết by cooking special holiday foods. Bam-Bou will be celebrating Tết from Monday, 11 - 28 February with a special traditional menu at just £15, created by Head Chef Steve Gower. Bar Manager Ladislav Piljar has also created a cocktail “new moon” incorporating customary Vietnamese ingredients to serve in The Red Bar and the restaurant. To book call 020 7323 9130 or for more details visit our website.

Shrove Tuesday at The Mount Street Deli

Each year, after a dry, healthy January, Lent creeps up on us and occasionally galvanises some of us into the action of abstention. Pancakes originally became the food of choice the day before Ash Wednesday so that rich ingredients such as eggs, milk and sugar could be used up before the start of the Lenten fast. Join us on Tuesday, 12 February celebrating the best of these from 2pm - 6pm, where we will be serving traditional sugar & lemon and chocolate pancakes outside The Mount Street Deli for just £2.
